Former track captain and 2X cross country captain, Victoria Nino, is a 4-year Varsity runner. She’s been running since she was just 7 years old and it’s been paying off.
Nino is currently communicating with five great colleges to continue her cross country and track career including; Pepperdine University, Northern Arizona University, CSU Fullerton, CSU Fresno, and UC Santa Cruz.
She is leaning more towards attending CSU Fresno because “it’s closer to home and [they] have a really great cross country program.”
No matter what college she decides to attend, she plans on majoring in Phycology and minoring in Radiology.
Her goal for running at the college of her choice is to make the travel team and become one of the top five runners.
As this is her last season running for Redwood, Nino’s goal for her last year is to focus on herself because she “has so little time to achieve [her] goals before graduation.”
Nino plans to always be running, even after college. Either for fun, or wherever her running career takes her. She hasn’t thought much about her big decision to make yet, but she says, “I believe it really is up to what feels like home to me.”
Her cross country and long-distance track coach, Coach Ramirez is “so proud of Victoria and proud to be her coach.” Nino’s “love for [the] sport really shows, she works so hard… and she’s very coachable.” says Ramirez.
According to Ramirez, Nino brings a certain level of organization and seriousness to the team… she demands a lot of herself and her teammates.”
Coach Ramirez is a big part of how Nino got to where she is today. He’s provided her with a high level of structure, guidance, and instruction. From her Freshman year to now, Nino has “always done well, but she’s really stayed the course and improved so much.”, says Ramirez.
Nino was named one of the Top 100 Most Improved Female 5K Runners in the state last year by a major online publication.
Nino has taken the lead on her recruitment by colleges to further her running career. She has one more year of running for Redwood and Coach Ramirez is excited to watch her race.
The Redwood head of track, Coach Roebuck took over the program Nino’s Sophomore year, he says Nino, “helped lead our girls distance program through her hard work and dedication.” He goes on to say, “Victoria is one of the most driven individuals I have had the pleasure of coaching.”
Coach Roebuck respects Nino’s athleticism and motivation for setting herself up for her future, “Her drive continues to set her apart from her competitors and is a distinct advantage as she lines up at the starting line against other athletes.”
