Redwood Water Polo met in playoffs last week with the boys taking on Clovis East and Buchanan the girls facing Buchanan.
The girls went down fighting in a 12-5 loss to the Buchanan Beats in the first round of playoffs. They were a 12 seed, facing a strong 5 seed in the Beats.
Jersey Hays, ’21, says that the game should not have been based on the score because, “we kept fighting throughout the entire game, it really showed our character.”
Hays says that she will miss the relationships she made with her teammates, especially the teammates. Along with that the pasta feeds were always a highlight, but she added on she would “definitely not miss the swim sets.”
Boys Water Polo succeeded and defeated Clovis East 13-12. Sam Felsted, ’21, scored three on the game and exclaimed great confidence for his team. He says that he is excited for playoffs, “to see what we can do.”
William Minnick, ’21, says it felt really good to beat Clovis East because they were initially seeded lower, so it was a good confidence booster. He says last weekend against Buchanan was tough because the team is young and it, “lacks in experience, but we have shown a ton of improvement.”
Felsted understands that he needs to be a leader for the team. Felsted said, “We just need to keep playing as a team and trust ourselves as teammates, because we got each others backs.”
Boys water polo ended their playoff hopes Saturday against and at Buchanan. The girls will move onto next season with high hopes and expectations. Both teams played and fought exceptionally well as the season went on.
