As some of you might know, women’s water polo is having an extra long break before their next game, three weeks to be exact.
Finnlee Morgan, ‘22, is a member of the water polo team. Morgan says that since their break is so long, “They’ve been focusing a lot on conditioning, so a lot more swimming and strength training than usual.” She also says that, “We also make sure to have lots of time for team bonding activities.” The break has made Morgan, “More fired up than ever. I couldn’t be more excited to start the league.”
While they are getting extra training time during their long break, it can be an unusual feeling to not play for three weeks. Maddy Allan, ’22, says, “It feels really weird. We have never had a break like this mid-season.” Even though it might feel odd, Allan says, “We are scrimmaging a lot to make sure we don’t get rusty during this break.” She goes on to say, “Working on communication and game situations is going to help us be a lot more confident in our upcoming games.”
Even though the long break could be tough, all of the players seem to have positive outlooks and are making the best of it. Bailey Nelson, ’22, says that the break, “has been great. We have gotten so much stronger since the break started and it’s been so nice.” A long break can come with advantages, and being extra prepared with the team is one of them. Nelson goes on to say that something they need to work on is communication and confidence. She says, “Some of the girls are scared to shoot or try risky things this year.” Well, that’s another good outcome of the break, they get to work on some things that may be lacking.
Even if they have a long break, it definitely comes with its advantages, and the girls on the water polo team are really using this extra time wisely.
