Over the summer, Visalia Unified School District [VUSD] gave notice of election for Governing Board Members.

Constituents will elect one individual from their respective Trustee Areas.

4-year-terms for Trustee Areas 1, 2, 3, and 4 are on the ballot. A 2-year-term for Trustee Area 6 is included as well.

Incumbent Trustees are as follows:

Trustee Area 1: Board Clerk Walta Gamonian

Trustee Area 2: Board President Juan Guerrero

Trustee Area 3: Joy Naylor

Trustee Area 4: Catalina Blair

Trustee Area 6: Randy Villegas

Blair was provisionally appointed to her seat in November 2021 after John Crabtree resigned from his seat.

Villegas was provisionally appointed to his seat in December 2021 after Christopher Pope resigned from his seat.

The Board of Education makes important decisions that significantly impact students’ education. Although students cannot vote, many find it essential for them to know what happens in the boardroom.

Jonathan Luna, class of 2024, currently serves as Junior Class President.

He says, “The board can make changes that we [students] may be unaware of and [we would not] know [until] months later, so [it is] valuable that we know!”
