On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, the Visalia Unified School District [VUSD] Board of Education swore in four student board members to represent the student voice.
The representatives are as follows:
Redwood High School- Savannah Torres, class of 2023.
El Diamante High School- Tawanda Charumka, class of 2023.
Golden West High School- Cameron Hood, class of 2023.
Mount Whitney High School- Alex Elick, class of 2023.
Torres, Charumuka, Hood, and Elick serve as Associated Student Body [ASB] Presidents at their respective high schools.
Student members have a vote on certain agenda items, give a summary of what VUSD high schools have accomplished, and represent the student voice at board meetings.
Torres, ’23, says, “[Taking her oath] felt good, [there] was definitely a little bit of pressure, but [it is] exciting to be able to be a student representative.”
