VUSD students who turn 18 on or before Tuesday, November 8, 2022, have the opportunity to vote in the upcoming election.
To register to vote, go to www.registertovote.ca.gov. Election information and other resources are available as well.
If the student is pre-registered to vote, they will be officially registered the second they turn 18.
Registered voters residing in VUSD Trustee Areas 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 will see a section to vote for a school board member, also known as a Trustee.
School board members are locally elected public officials entrusted with governing a community’s public schools.
The role of the school board is to ensure that school districts are responsive to the values, beliefs, and priorities of their communities.
A school board is responsible for implementing policies, establishing budgets, setting goals, and evaluating progress toward those goals. They also hire and evaluate the superintendent.
In any election, knowing the candidates’ beliefs, priorities, values, and goals is essential.
