This past weekend Varsity Girls Tennis took on Stockdale and won, but unfortunately lost to Bakersfield Christian. This Tuesday, August 31, they will be facing Clovis West High School.

While feeling excited and nervous, the girls still feel prepared for this weekend after training all summer.  Though the girls did not have a regular season last year, they still feel very prepared for the matches to come.

One of the girls, Brooke O’Leary, ‘22 says, “I am looking forward to an awesome senior season!”. Due to COVID-19 last year, Brooke was not able to have a regular Junior season for tennis. However, now that she is able to return to normal again, she is more than excited for the upcoming matches.

“Some players to keep an eye out for are Ally Terrible and Emma Jenan in singles and Ally and Jocelyn in doubles.”

Varsity Girl’s Tennis Coach, Matt Gong

Coach Gong is confident that his team will play to the best of their ability for they have, “played many tougher teams before then, so they will be prepared for the skill of their opponent.”

Players Jocelyn Arellano, ‘23  and O’Leary,  have been practicing hard for their upcoming match and as they hope to bring home a win for the team Arellano says, “I feel very excited!”

In order to prepare for their upcoming matches against out of town schools they have been training hard. O’Leary says, “Girls tennis is always super great with working on fitness and agility months before the actual matches, so I know the whole team is in great shape and ready to play hard.”

The girls are excited to see how their match will play out and are confident in their abilities. Their persistence and training has prepared them for more difficult matches, such as Clovis West. O’Leary says, “ I know our upcoming matches will be difficult because they are all against out of town schools, but as long as we all play to our highest potential, it will be great.”

Players such as Arellano also builds from their previous matches and learn from their mistakes in the past.Arellano says “by allowing myself to stay calm, cool and collected’ she can focus better on the task at hand and play to her full potential.

Coach Gong is confident in his players but also says,“ we will have a close match with it possibly going either way.”

After a loss to Bakersfield Christian, the girls are still excited and try to keep a positive attitude this upcoming week as they face tougher teams in the future.
