Redwood Varisty Baseball, while they have had a slow start in their preseason, is showing promise for the regular season to come. Starting Center Fielder Jaxon Griffiths, ’25, has incredibly high hopes for himself as well as his team.

Center Fielder Jaxon Griffiths, ’25, is a three year varsity member for the team. Griffiths says, “Me, as well as my team, have a lot of goals for the season. We want to win league, make it through playoffs, and ultimately win Valley.”

Griffiths feels that the team environment is crucial to their success: “once we get everything clicked, I think we can go really far,” says Griffiths.
Griffiths’ baseball career goes back much further than simply his freshmen year, in fact he has been playing since he was seven years old. When asked about who his biggest inspirations are, Griffiths ays, “I would have to say my parents. They motivate me every day to do the best that I can.”
Daniel Hydash is the head coach for Varsity Baseball. When asked about Griffiths, Coach Hydash says, “Jaxon is a special player. He is a force in the lineup and a plus defender in center field. He constantly leads by example, and is the type of player coaches love to have on their team.”
Coach Hydash expresses the impact a close knit team has had on their season thus far. Coach Hydash says, “A close knit team says a lot about our culture here at Redwood. Players support each other and enjoy being able to practice and play together every day.”
Coach Hydash finishes by saying, “We always set very high expectations for ourselves. Jaxon will do special things and our goals are to win the league and a section championship.”

Issac Esquivel, ’25, describes his teammate Griffiths as, “A really positive guy; he’s always willing to do the most for his team.”
Esquivel shares Griffiths high hopes for their season to come, and is anxious to have an incredibly successful senior year.
Esquivel and Griffiths are not only teammates, but also very close friends outside of baseball. Esquivel feels that this relationship has a very special bond. Esquivel says, “Our friendship definitely carries onto the field, because I have trust for him, he has trust for me.”
