The Redwood Girls Soccer team has had yet another amazing season, winning their fourth straight season of being crowned East Yosemite League (EYL) champions.
Playing defense, #11 Alexis Rico, ’25, says it felt great to win the EYL championship. “We all came together as a team and made it happen together. We wouldn’t have done it if we weren’t [super] close, and [we] became sisters and family to do it for each other.”

Rico says she kept it in the back of her mind to stay motivated by “remembering it is my last year playing at [Redwood] and I just want to make it memorable and have fun.”
The most memorable moment Rico says she had was on February 6th against Mt. Whitney. Redwood girls soccer crushed Mt. Whitney with a score of 16-0. Rico says “it was very eventful and there was a lot that had happened. It was really entertaining to watch.”
Rico says winning the EYL season undefeated has helped her grow as a player and a person with the “responsibility and leadership aspect, I have stepped up into a role of leadership to help the younger girls and help prepare them for the coming years.”
Also playing defense is #23 Ruby Beal, ’26, who says that winning EYL while undefeated “feels really good. We had a really hard game against El D and both times we were able to come through.”
Even though the Girls Varsity Soccer team remained undefeated, they faced many challenges to remain champions. Beal says the toughest challenge she faced was “a lot of injuries. We had a lot of girls that were getting hurt this season and had to have other players come in to adapt to that, but overall we had an almost perfect season.”

Beal says having a close bond with the team helped secure another undefeated season. “We all wanted the same thing so we were motivating each other. It helped a lot and I think it’s going to help us further in playoffs, especially this year. Our team is just so close and we have such a good connection because we’ve all played together before so that really helps a lot.”
Beal says she has grown a lot as a player this past season. With the help of her team she says she’s playing “smarter, figuring out how to play against better teams, and work better with other people especially other defenders.”
Continuing the good team chemistry, Beal says she plans to add the success she gained for the next season. Beal says how “it wasn’t super great last year, but if everyone’s staying positive, we are good for next year.”
