Excitement builds this week as two students step up to run for ASB (Associated Student Body) Spirit Coordinator, a role focused on boosting school pride and bringing students together through fun and engaging events.
Both candidates, Sophie Del Villar, ‘27, and Kadence Hetherington, ‘28, are eager to make a positive impact on campus and have been sharing their ideas on how to make the following school year more spirited than ever.

The first candidate, Del Villar, currently a junior, is known for their involvement around campus and ASB as Secretary for the 2025-2026 school year. She hopes to connect groups across campus, whether it is in the halls or at football games.
Del Villar, ‘27, says, “I would want to be ASB spirit coordinator because I think I can represent Redwood nicely and put in a lot of hard work for students at this school, and to help build a stronger community.”
The second candidate, Hetherington, currently a sophomore, is known for their involvement in ASB, Yearbook, and track. She also hopes to bring strong ideas and passion for student involvement.
Hetherington, ‘28, says, “I would love to be ASB spirit coordinator because I care a lot about our school, and I love supporting every aspect of it, every club and culture here on campus. I really want to make school a welcoming place that students look forward to and show school spirit toward their school and every event here on campus.”

Both candidates are bringing positivity, creativity, and school pride to the election race. With different approaches but the same goal of uplifting students, this election gives everyone the chance to decide who they believe will bring the most school spirit to campus.
Del Villar says, “What spirit means to me is being kind to others when they might feel down and bringing someone’s energy up on a bad day or at any Redwood event.”
Spirit at Redwood means more than just the sidelines and student sections at football games; it includes making sure everyone feels uplifted and supported throughout the school year, no matter what part of Redwood they may be.
Hetherington says, “Spirit means a lot ot me because I’ve always been an outgoing person and being able to express that spirit for my school is very exciting. Having spirit is important because it not only brings yourself up but also others through supporting them at games and different events.”
A high school spirit coordinator should be enthusiastic, creative, and responsible. They should have strong communication and leadership skills to encourage participation and promote school pride while making everyone feel included.
