California Scholarship Federation [CSF] discussed their holiday community service events during their fourth mandatory meeting.
On November 17th, the California Scholarship Federation [CSF] held their fourth monthly meeting at lunch in the Annie R. Mitchell Library.
The officer team present included President Kylie Schieferle, ’23, Vice President Leena Aziz, ’23, Secretary Danelia Palma, ’23, Treasurer Eliza Howard, ’23, Junior Associate Natalie Nelson, ’24, Junior Associate Jacquelyn Alexander, ’24, and Advisor Mrs. Nicole Vieira.
To start the meeting, the officer team thanked members participates of the October Trunk-or-Treat service event for their presence and contribution to the community.
Following this, the Michealson Memorial Award Scholarship opportunity was addressed to seniors. The essay contest will award an individual one thousand dollars in scholarship money for higher education. Submissions are due by December 22, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. For details, the CSF website has further information for those interested.
In efforts of fundraising, CSF has managed pizza sales during lunch throughout the week of November 28th to December 2nd.
From November 28th through December 9th, the club will be holding a toy drive for the Child’s Life Center at Valley Children’s Hospital in Fresno.
If a student wishes to donate or buy items, all toys must be new and in their original packaging. Stuffed animals and soft blankets are requested by Valley Children’s in effort to relieve families of stressful circumstances. Other requested materials can be found on the Amazon Wishlist link in the Remind.
All items need to be delivered to Vieira in room 208. If ordering online, do not send the package to Valley Children’s, rather send it to your personal address to then deliver the object(s) to Vieira.
When regarding the preceding club events, Schieferle says, “the team and I thought the last meeting went really well and it set us up for success on our current service project and upcoming meeting.”
The innovative use of the google form system has “helped with attendance,” according to Schieferle.
Throughout the remainder of the holiday season, she says students “should remember all they have during the holidays and be grateful for that. I suggest we all find ways to reach out to those in need so someone else may also have a holiday filled with love and comfort.”
As both an officer and member of CSF, Howard says it is important to maintain the mindset that “the holidays are a time to give to others because that is what brings the most joy. I hope that everyone can adapt their mindset to this and find it in their hearts to want to give.”
Palma is also an officer and member. She says a mindset one must have as the holiday season approaches is to “finish the semester out strong and think about how you’re almost there”.
The next meeting will take place during lunch in the library on Thursday, December 8th. Members in attendance will be creating holiday cards for Valley Children patients; materials will be supplied.
To receive updates on upcoming community service opportunities or meeting dates, members can access the CSF officer team through Instagram (@rhscsf), Remind (@rhscsf2223), and Minga group.
