The third annual California Scholarship Federation [CSF] club meeting cover upcoming service event and attendance.
On Thursday October 13th, CSF held their third meeting in the Annie R. Mitchell Library during lunch.
Club officers present included: President Kylie Schieferle, ’23, Vice President Leena Aziz, ’23, Secretary Danelia Palma, ’23, Treasurer Eliza Howard, ’23, Junior Associate Natalie Nelson, ’24, Junior Associate Jacquelyn Alexander, ’24, and Advisor Mrs. Nicole Vieira.
If a student previously ordered a CSF T-Shirt, shirts were distributed at the meeting. Remaining orders can be picked-up in room 208.
This year’s senior scholarship opportunity is associated with the Michealson Memorial Awards. Submissions to apply essays open November 1st and the winner will be awarded $1000 to utilize for higher education.
To access the link and information to apply, visit the CSF page on the Redwood High School website or the Minga app. If further questions arise, contact Vieira or the CSF team for clarification.
In previous years, members would be asked to write their name, grade, and student ID number on paper to be collected. Unlike last year’s system, this meeting administered attendance via google form.
Schieferle says that this innovative system is “very efficient for us to sort through and it is easier for us to keep track of everyone that came to the meeting in comparison to physical sheets of paper”.
She says that the turnout, and meeting as a whole, went well. Considering the upcoming October service project is to occur next week, Schieferle looks forward to the event and says that the CSF is “trying to get as many people as possible involved”.
CSF will be hosting their October community service event on Monday October 24th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the RHS Student Parking Lot. Participating members should arrive no later than five to park their car and add decor before the kids arrive.
Members can supply candy, join a friend’s car, or bring a lawn chair if they do not have a car.
From October 17-21st, students may also participate in the candy drive by donating a bag of candy and/or decorations for the cars. Materials can be dropped off in room 208. Signups will also be available at this time or through the google form linked on social media.
Palma was involved with planning the October event. She says she became interested in hosting a ‘trunk or treat’ after partaking in one with her church. “I found the kids loved it, and it was a great way to get involved,” Palma says.
She says she “hope[s] to see tons of our CSF members come together to make the event as successful as possible.”
Palma says she looks forward to “seeing all the smiling kids come by [her] car to receive candy.”
Alongside Palma, Aziz assisted in developing the service event. She says, “I thought it would be a really cute way to get into the fall spirit and give the younger kids in the VUSD community a chance to celebrate Halloween with Redwood students.”
Aziz says that she “would have loved to do this when I was in elementary school”.
Now that she is able to host one with the CSF club, she says “it would be a really memorable and special experience for the elementary school students we have now”.
The CSF officer team encourages members to stay informed through their Remind (@rhscsf2223), Instagram (@rhscsf), and Minga group.
