A booming voice can be heard in the Mineral King Bowl. This voice, associated with memories of Ranger moments throughout the years is that of Patrick Lozano. He is the man behind this voice we all connect with Redwood pride.
In 1982, as a Junior, this Redwood Alum started K-RHS, the first on-campus radio station for Redwood High School. The radio station played music all over campus before school and during lunch thus starting his lifelong career of being heard throughout the Redwood campus.
Lozano went on to get his radio broadcasters license at K-JUG during his senior year at Redwood. He has worked as ‘Voice over’ talent, recording several radio and TV commercials over the years and spent several years as the “Football Game of the Week” host on KJUG AM and later at KTIP AM, once again being a voice for sports fans and Rangers everywhere.
Weekly, Lozano would travel from town-to-town to cover the biggest game of the week so fans at home could hear the game from the comfort of their couch. During this entire time, Lozano was a Police Officer for three departments here in Tulare County. He explains that ‘working on the air” {broadcasting games} was a great way to relieve the stress of his full-time job and keep the creative part of his brain stimulated.
Just prior to coming back to Redwood 10 years ago to become the official Voice of the Redwood Rangers, Lozano spent 10 years as the in-stadium announcer for the Visalia Oaks Professional Baseball Club. (Now known as the Visalia Rawhide)
What is Lozano up to now you may wonder? This major voice in Redwood history returned ten years ago.
Lozano has been the stadium announcer for Redwood Football and the Gymnasium Announcer for Redwood Basketball. From time-to-time he gets a call from the Athletic Director to announce special postseason games for other sports here at Redwood. Lozano would love to see Redwood get a professional sound system so he could announce more sports such as Redwood Baseball and Softball games. Lozano’s wife Tiffany is his spotter at sporting events, using binoculars to provide him with the details of who made the plays on the field so he can broadcast the information to fans. He says, “I literally could not do the job without a great spotter, and that Tiffany is the best!”
Lozano is also a professional Emcee and Host for local charitable fund-raising events.
In 2022 alone, he was flown to a handful of national conventions, for different industries, to present on topics such as Workplace Violence, De-Escalation Skills and Keeping Employees and Customers safe. In addition to presenting on certain topics within his field of expertise, Patrick has been hired over the years by several national organizations to be a Keynote Speaker or Convention opening speaker. Lozano says he is such a spirited speaker because of his Irish-immigrant mother, Mary, who raised him and his siblings alone. He said she was one of the most engaging and funny people he ever met, and that being raised by her was a true gift.
During and after his Law Enforcement career, Lozano served as CEO of three Visalia-based companies; including the current company he runs with his wife Tiffany, Echelon Security Group, the special events security company for Visalia Unified School District. So, the next time you go to a high school dance or large sporting event, know that the Lozano’s and their company of Officers are protecting you!
In 1983, his senior year, the Rotary Theater on the Sierra Vista campus was Redwood’s wood shop classroom. In a 2022 video created by the Rotary Club of Visalia, Lozano was credited for leading a group of Rangers into seeking funding from Rotary to make this historical Visalia Theater, an active theater once more. He says, “That’s a story for another time!’
