Coming back from a three week winter break, the school district decided to have a change in the school schedule. The Visalia School District changed the schedule, so now students have added more hours to school.
Some students are already struggling to adjust to the new schedule but now they have to re-adjust once again. Students found out the change of schedule over winter break led to students having opinions about the new schedule.
Tessa Carney, class of 24’, says that when she heard of the news she was not excited because of the timing of the schedule. She didn’t think she would be able to adjust to it. But she had a.m. classes so she was already used to waking up early. The classes are way too long because she gets distracted very easily and she loses focus. She felt that the schedule was exhausting
“I’m getting my work done more easily because of the extra time in class that we have.”
– Tessa Carney
Carney struggles with her computer because it has had more problems with connecting because of how many people are in my zoom class. She actually enjoys the long break in between the first and the second period that is provided. She is more independent with the new schedule because there’s more students in the classroom so she can’t ask for help.
Nicole Canelario, class of 24’, says that she wasn’t expecting the news that she received from her mother about school. She thought she was going to return back to public school but instead found out that the schedule changed. The first week back from winter break she already adjusted to waking up early because she had morning classes. She struggles with communicating with the teacher because there’s way too many students asking for different things when the lesson is being taught.
Canelario, is more independent and doing her work and teaching herself the lesson like in math and she doesn’t need to depend on the teacher for extra help. For the new year if she wanted to have a routine and this new schedule happened to make her have a routine of waking up early. The new schedule has put her in check with grades. Overall she thought the schedule was a necessity for herself.
Krystal Magdaleno, class of 25’, says she’s not motivated to do school. She can’t adjust the schedule but she has to. Not going to school interferes with her sleeping schedule because she doesn’t like going to sleep early. And she struggles with keeping up with all the assignments that the teachers give to her. The more independence that the schedule gave her is stressing her out.
