Teachers from different subjects state their opinions of the Block Schedule.

As the CAST (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) and CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) testing session occurred recently for the eleventh-grade students, a modified block schedule was implemented to accommodate the testing requirements.
This new schedule aims to optimize the testing environment and ensure students have enough time to complete their assessments effectively.
Although this schedule has brought about a range of differing opinions, it has sparked essential discussions among Redwood’s Staff.
Some teachers believe that the changes will enhance productivity and efficiency, while others express concerns about the challenges faced with this schedule.
Mr. Michael White, a Chemistry and AP Environmental Science teacher shares his views on a block schedule.

Mr. White says, “As a science teacher, I don’t mind the block schedule. It gives us time to do labs or activities that would have felt rushed or not have enough time for otherwise.”
While this is beneficial for some teachers others think otherwise, Mrs. Stacy Galvan, the drama teacher says, “I believe block schedule can hurt school culture, in that students who connect with certain teachers won’t see that teacher every day. I believe that in some subjects not having students every day is detrimental.”
The block schedule is more beneficial depending on various factors, including teaching style, subject matter, and the unique needs of students.
This flexibility allows educators to adapt their methods and enhance learning experiences.
Mr. Victor Herandez, a Math 2 and 3 teacher, says, “I think block is more beneficial for students when there is testing going on and when they are practicing skills they are familiar with.”
