Luke Sanchez, ’26, came in as a starter last week against Tulare Western, filling in the shoes of Jordan Arreola, ’26, and he shined with 4 total touchdowns.
Redwood’s original starting quarterback, Arreola, fractured his ankle in the fourth quarter against Tulare Union, which led to Sanchez stepping in.
“First of all, I felt really bad for Jordan because I remember last year when I broke my hand, in week five, and I couldn’t play the rest of the season, it sucks, especially because he’s a senior, so I feel bad for him. But, I mean, you just gotta step up, you know? Someone went down, you got to come back up and do the job, and it felt good to be back in the pocket.”

On what his mindset was coming into his first full game back against Tulare Western, Sanchez shared, “I was quite nervous before, but then after the first touchdown, the first hit, then your adrenaline starts going, and then I kind of just started to play in my game.”
Sanchez shared if he can improve from his play last game, “Yeah, for sure. Protecting the ball a little bit better, and making better reads.”
Redwood has lost its last two games against the Hanford Bullpups, with both losses coming via blowouts. Last season’s loss was 56-12, and the season before, 47-28.
On how the team can dethrone the Bullpups, Sanchez said, “We have a really good game plan going into the game, and I think we’re going to come out with a W, and it is going to feel good coming into homecoming week and coming out with the W. It’s going to be a good feeling.”
