Every year, Redwood’s ASB class prepares and plans weeks in advance for Homecoming. They are in charge of the Homecoming Luncheon, Lunch Time Activities, Rally (including the DJ and videos), Spirit Days, posters and decorations around the school and inside the Mineral King Bowl, and they organize and manage the Top 5 nominees throughout the week.
This year’s theme was Nickelodeon and kept the idea going through the dress up days and rally by popular vote from within the class and some input around the school also.
The spirit days included Monday- Class Colors (Power Rangers), Tuesday- Vsco/E-boy/girl (iCarly), Wednesday- 90s style (Fresh Prince of Belair), Thursday- Duo Day (Drake and Josh), and Friday- Ranger Blue Spirit Day (Blue’s Clues).
Mrs. Aston, ASB Director, explained that the dress up days were actually based on a school vote poll where ASB released some ideas through a link and students could vote and choose which they liked. Obviously, every year, the week kicks off with class colors since it’s easy to start off from the weekend. Then this year, ASB wanted to implement a pop culture day inspired by Tik Tok and VSCO.
ASB is constantly coming up with ideas to better our school spirit and motivate everyone to show it. The class is split up into committees to amplify the school culture. Lauren Kneeland, ’21, was in charge of the parade, Christine Santos, ’20, is Rally Commissioner, Camila Garcia, ’21, and Aniyah Tillman, ’21, focused on Luncheon and lunch time activities for the nominees and Top 5, Brielle Alvarez, ’22, focuses solely on the Homecoming Queen reveal.
Along with these aspects, multiple students focused on posters and decorations including a different show theme per building on campus.
Despite all the stress and hard work throughout the week, it all seemed to pay off this year as the theme really stood out compared to other years and was implemented in all aspects of the week. From the “Ranger Choice Awards” themed rally to Nickelodeon themed dress-up days to the posters in the Bowl naming the Top 5.
