The Taylor’s Hot Dogs event, held on October 28th, was one filled with tradition, school pride, and performances, as Redwood and the school across the street battled it out in the parking lot of Taylor’s Hot Dogs.
ASB President, Sophia Diaz, ‘26, says, “I think it’s such a good tradition. You know, I love to be a part of it. I’m so blessed to be a part of it for all four years. Um, I think it’s just a huge tradition. I hope it never dies out, and it’s really important to me to be part of it.”
Diaz also says that she was really hyped to be there, and that it’s always fun to be there at Taylor’s.
Redwood’s principal, Dr. Brandon Gridiron says, “I think it’s great. It’s always something we look forward to. Cowhide is a big part of the tradition of our school, and so it’s great to see two rival teams be able to come out and battle out here before we battle on the field.”

Mr. Pete Siqueiros, Redwood’s ASB advisor, says the event was pretty cool, even though Redwood lost the point battle.
Jayden Estevez Morales, a Redwood band member, says, “this tradition means a lot because it is a really fun tradition, just having fun going against Mt. Whitney, and it’s just so fun to me.”
Estevez Morales also says that he and the whole band were having a lot of fun at the event, enjoying expressing themselves and showing support.
The tradition of the Taylor’s Hot Dogs event is a long-going event and the tradition means a lot to students and staff.
Dr. Gridiron says, it’s a part of the tradition of excellence that we talk about at Redwood.”
Gridiron also talks about how the event reminds him of the traditions that he had back in high school.
Diaz says, “It means that Cowhide’s more than just football. Cowhide’s between both schools. It’s not just football, it’s not just cheer. It’s not even just Dance. It’s everyone. It’s band, it’s ASB, it’s just regular kids.”
She also says that it’s really cool to have everyone out there and that it shows that Cowhide is more than just football.
Mr. Sequeiros, with it being his first year as Redwood’s ASB advisor, shares his feelings on the tradition.
Mr. Sequeiros says, “I feel special being a part of it. Knowing that this is something you would see in the movies, two high schools come to a hot dog stand parking lot for their student body to battle it out.”
Diaz says, “Go Rangers. We’re about to win Cowhide for a second year in a row.”
