The college football playoff is fast approaching with an all-new 12-team playoff, but who is the favorite to win it all? Some Redwood students give their thoughts on who they think is going to win it all.
This year’s college football playoff is thought to be possibly the most exciting one yet, with the NCAA extending the playoff from 4 teams to 12 teams. What makes this exciting is that games in the first round will be played at college’s home stadiums, and if there is one thing about college football that is exciting, it’s the fans.
Mason Brown, ’28, shared his opinion on who he thinks is going to win the National Championship. “I think it is going to be Georgia. Their team is doing really good and they have a first-round bye week.”
Georgia is ranked number 2 in the nation right now. They surprisingly missed last year’s college football playoff as the defending National Champions, and this year they are looking to get their vengeance and bring the national championship back to Georgia again.
Andres Sanchez, ’26, shared his opinion who he thinks is going to win the National Championship. “[I pick] Oregon. I think their defense is really good and I think their offense is better,” said Sanchez.
Dutton Bates, ’28, said, “[I’m picking] the Oregon Ducks because they are number one in the [nation] right now.”
This year was the Oregon Ducks’ first year in the Big 10 conference and they defeated Penn State to win the conference. They are currently ranked number one in the nation and their quarterback Dillon Gabriel was a Heisman trophy finalist.
Brody Terry, ’26, said, “I’m tempted to say Oregon, but I have to go with Ohio State. I feel like a lot of the stuff they do has been really good these past few years and I think they’re gonna bring it home.”
Ohio State was originally ranked number 2 in the nation, but then they got a stunning loss to Michigan that dropped them all the way to number 6 in the nation. Their coach, Ryan Day is going to have his 4th playoff appearance, he made it to a National Championship in 2021 but fell short to Alabama by a score of 52-24.
This year’s college football playoff is the most exciting one yet. Anything is possible; Cinderella stories can come true, dreams can be crushed, and legacy can be cemented. The road to the national championship starts this Friday, Devember 18th, with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish hosting the Indiana Hoosiers at 5PM.
