Shymari Jackson- Sports Writer
I am a sports Journalist for the Gigantea and I write all types of sport related stories since the beginning of the school year . I primarily write sports stories , but I also give details and events that can help my other journalist classmates . I have learned the proper language and vocabulary of being a journalist and i have also learned the different kinds of sports and the way they score. I am particularly proud of my work that covers sports that many people never go to watch and that I can help sport fans and athletes have a story that can either share or hear other kids stories . It gives those athletes an opportunity to have their skills shown to the whole world in a meaningful and professional way.
Semester 1 Stories
This is a story I created for this year's first brother feature story . It was about varsity Water Polo brothers David and Joseph Ross. The Ross brothers are really strong, independent, and fierce players. The brothers are both amazing players in and out of the water, and their chemistry is unmatched.
This story indicates my journalistic strengths by it being my first Water polo story of the school year.My interviewing skills got way better throughout the year when learning the basic journalism needs and wants for this class. It does show my good reporting skills because I got to listen to them report there story and let it be hear on the Redwood Gigantea.
This story matters because each player on a team deserves a reason to get attention and a shout out. By highlighting the Ross brothers with my story, I am connecting our readers to our diverse, talented athletes and showing a part of RHS athletic life that not many people see.
This is a story I created with two other journalism kids, Justin Jimenez and Alejandro Morales for the Varsity Girls Water Polo. The girls water polo team won their game against Liberty High school during their first home game back for the 2022-2023 school year. The captains of the team Hannah Kempf and Eliza Howard were both excited and thrilled to see their team back in action and win.
This story demonstrates my journalist's strength because I got great information when I interviewed the team.It shows good reporting because i interviewed them and got all question answered without having them feels nervous talking about their team and sport. My journalist skills showed whenever i interviewed and started writing my story.
This story matter because the Varsity Girls water polo team deserve some kind of recantation for their handwork they did and achieved this year. For me to talk about their team and sport it let other kids know about people they never new about and gives them an opportunity to play a sport or learn a sport. The girls and boys water polo teams both do good jobs recognizing their players and having fans go watch their game.
