Brody Block, ’22 is a new edition to not only Redwood, but to their baseball program. He is a center fielder and bats first in the line-up.
Block started playing baseball at age six and has been involved in many teams throughout his baseball career; including Cal Ripken, All Stars, and travel ball, as well.
He transferred this year from El Diamante High School to Redwood for the reason of baseball, he says.
Head Baseball Coach, Dan Hydash, says, “He’s been their lead off hitter pretty much the whole year, he’s that spark plug on the top of the line-up. Always puts together good at bats, especially starting off the game, and usually has a way of getting on base, whether it’s a base hit, extra base hit, a walk, and then once he gets on the bases, he’s always a base-stealing threat.”
With it being Block’s last year of playing, he adds that he is, “just trying to have as much fun as possible with all of the guys while winning at the same time.”
Block’s future has baseball involved in it. He says that he does, “plan on playing baseball in college. I’ll probably go to COS [College of the Sequoias] for a year, then transfer somewhere else.”
Along with the talent and abilities Block has, he adds that, “someone who’s affected my life significantly in baseball is my dad for always supplying me with the equipment I need and paying for lessons and tournament fees when I was younger.”
He has already made a huge difference in Redwood’s performance by scoring a lot of runs for them this year, and knocked in a lot of runs, and as Hydash says, “he’s just been a very big positive for our offense and our team in general.”
The importance of Block as a player Hydash says, is that, “Brody is a competitor, one of those guys that shows up on game day always ready to go.”
“He’s brought a different mentality to a lot of the kids on the team, a pretty fierce competitor. So, if they are ever looking for that jolt or spark, Brody is usually the one that supplies it.”
