Through 2019, the year consisted of many different music releases. Whether it was a song that made you want to get up and dance or a song that makes you think about life. we all had our favorites from the year. Here are the 2019 songs that made the year one never to forget.

Jackson Ford ’22

Jackson Ford’s 2019 

  • “WHAT’S GOOD” by Tyler the Creator 
  • “Futsal Shuffle 2020” by  Lil Uzi Vert 
  • “SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK” by Joji 

With Ford’s first pick of “WHAT’S GOOD” by Tyler the Creator, he says “I liked song on the album, Igor by Tyler the Creator, when it first came out and it really was an empowering song in the beginning of the year. Also, since I got to see the song performed live at his concert it just made hearing it exciting.” 

Ford’s other pick from the year was “Futsal Shuffle” by Lil Uzi Vert, when asked why this was his next pick he responded with, “Futsal Shuffle really ended my year on a high note and was ultimately my hype song of the year.” 

Ford’s final pick of the year was “SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK” by Joji, despite this song being released in 2018, it came to his discovery in 2019. Ford went on to say, “I really liked the song because it was a contrast to the hype songs and gave me something to listen to when I wanted to chill.”

Daisy Delamora ’21

  • “Realer by Megan Thee Stallion
  • “My Type” by Saweetie
  • “Stretch You Out” by Summer Walker feat. A Boogie wit da Hoodie 

With the mixtape release of “Fever” by Megan Thee Stallion in May of 2019, the featured single “Realer” took the top of the list for Daisy Delamora. Delamora went to comment on her pick by saying, “Megan’s song ‘Realer’” really made me feel confident throughout the year and also Megan really just made a bunch of the song through the year where me and all my girlfriends were able to feel good about ourselves.”

With the drop of Megan Thee Stallions mixtape in May, summer time was just right around the corner with the release of the single “My Type” by Saweetie. This song takes Delamora’s second pick as the hype song of her year. Delamora said, “’My Type’ was constantly on repeat during the summer and when I would hear it would just get expect and want to dance.” 

As Delamora’s 2019 came closer to the end, she felt like she really got into her emotional side with release of Summer Walker’s debut album “Over It” in early October of 2019. Her third pick and favorite song from the album was “Stretch You Out” featuring A Boogie wit da Hoodie. What Delamora had to say about the song was, “This song really talked about giving someone your all in a relationship and not getting the same energy back, this song really gave me something to relate to whenever I felt upset.”

Jada Luckey ’21

Jada Luckey’s 2019 

  • “On Chill”  by Wale
  • “Hot Now” by YoungBoy Never Broke Again 
  • “The Box” by Roddy Ricch

Luckey’s first pick of her year was the summer single, “On Chill” by Wale featuring Jeremih, this allowed her to set a laid back tone for her summer with this R&B hit. What she had to say about her first pick was, “I really liked this song because I was able to sit down and relax but also have a song to vibe out with and sing along to.”

Luckey’s next pick on her list was “Hot Now” by YoungBoy Never Broke Again from his fourteenth mixtape “Al Young Boy 2”. When asked why she picked the now a Tik Tok famous song she responded with, “Well when I first listened to the song when it dropped in September, I thought it was pretty good but eventually I found myself listening to it all the time. It’s the kind of song that when you listen to it you just get motivation to do something.”

As the year came to an end, the #1 Billboard hit single called, “The Box” by Roddy Ricch found itself as the third pick on Luckey’s list for 2019. When talking about her last pick, she had to say, “I really liked this song because when I listened to it you just get hyped up and I liked that I was able to end the year on a good note with that song.”
