Alyssa Hernandez ‘24 has been on the girl’s Varsity soccer team since her freshman year and she’s planning on attending Cal State Bakersfield.

When asked about how hard she worked to achieve this goal, she says, “I’d say I worked hard, I’ve been playing soccer since I was 3 years old and club has been a big commitment playing in Fresno so I put a lot of time and effort into my craft.”

She also says, “I’d say my dad because he put so much time into working to pay for my traveling to places like Orlando, Florida, so I feel like I had to accomplish my dream for me and also for him.”

When facing obstacles, she says, “I had surgery on my foot twice so that was about 5 months of recovery for each time so it was just hard getting back to the level I was at before I tore my foot.”

As for goals she wants to achieve, Hernandez has some in mind as she says, “I would love to get the Freshman of the Year award and also schoolwise I would love to keep my grades up how they are right now and become a Dermatologist.”

She also says, “I chose Bakersfield because I love the players and the coaches are extremely nice and welcoming. The atmosphere is amazing as well as the facilities and campus. It is close to home which is a big bonus so my family can come to watch me. I was also very lucky to get the offer I did which finalized my commitment.”

Jason Vieira, head coach of the girl’s varsity soccer team had this to say when asked about how it was coaching Alyssa ¨It’s fantastic she’s a very hard worker she pushes herself and her teammates and she always wants the best for everyone. He also said that ¨she has the work ethic to play at the next level, she is a great player, she has the desire and the passion. When asked about how she has developed under his coaching he also said this ¨I have seen her like blossom as a reader, she likes to try to inspire others to do fantastic in their game and also seen her just grow as a person¨.
