With the Marching season ending, the marching band transitions to concert band and festival season, but what happens with the percussion? The percussion continues to compete, but now in a competition season just for percussion. So far they have had 3 competitions scoring as high as 1st on two occasions.

Captain of the Winter Percussion, Kyla Seitz ‘22, says that “All of the three shows have been held in Clovis and we compete against the top schools there (Clovis).”Seitz adds,  “In our division, so far we have won 1st place twice!”.

Due to COVID, the Percussion have been unable to  have a full competitive winter season in about three years, when this year’s seniors were freshmen.

Because of the lack of experience but a good amount of talented underclassmen, a big focus of this year is building on what they have now for future years. This team has been “ building a  reputation for Redwood,” Co Captain of the Winter Percussion Drumline Danica Palardy ‘23 said.

The team’s progression and growth has made Palardy so proud of how far they’ve come. It has been a wonderful experience for her and the team, she says “We’ve pushed through some rough nights and challenging days to keep this program going, to keep doing what we love.”

Taking on a huge responsibility of being captain of the winter percussion, Seitz says that “It is really cool to see the amazing things produced from our group, and how cool the shows we are performing are.”

Seitz adds “If you can go and check out one of these shows, I would highly recommend it!”
