The auditions for Redwood’s performance of “Space Princess Wars” are rapidly approaching.

The auditions are taking place at Sierra Vista in room 15 and there will be one audition on August 23rd at 6:00pm but if you’re unable to make it there will be another audition on August 24th at 4:00pm.

Stacy Galvan, Redwood’s theater director, says, “[Space Princess Wars] is a combination of Star Wars and the Princess Bride kind of smushed together…”

Theater Director Stacy Galvan explains the audition process during an audition last school year.

Galvan believes that the fall play is very important for Redwood’s culture; she says, “We don’t have a lot of community plays, where it’s not a musical, people are not breaking into song.”

Galvan says, “The importance here at Redwood is that we always do something different that helps teach students another form of theater.”

When it comes to the auditions, Galvan says, “I’m looking for characterization. I’m not looking for you to be fully memorized… I’m also looking for character as a human being.”

Galvan says that there’s much more to an audition than just your acting ability and that your ability to be respectful and not be disruptive during rehearsals comes into play too.

Santa listens to the wishes of a dreaming child during Redwoods 2021 Fall Play.

For anyone new to performing who is thinking about auditioning Galvan says, “Just absolutely go for it. get your materials ahead of time… and be prepared. You don’t have to be memorized but be prepared.”

To prepare yourself for the auditions there will be materials that you can pick up in the drama room (room 15) and Galvan will be posting them online.

Galvan says, “Redwood is known for having huge productions and I’m hoping we have a lot of students and we can add some characters and we can actually develop the show bigger than what it’s supposed to be.”
