Wide Reciever Jarius Brooks ’28, had an impressive performance with a total of three touchdowns, with two of them being receiving and one of them being on a school-record 98-yard punt return.
Brooks had his sights set on taking advantage of this game against the Green School, as they aren’t the best.
Brooks prepared for the game by listening to music and making sure all his teammates were in the right mindset for the upcoming game. So when it hits 7:30, he’s ready to play.
Brooks believes he can improve on, “Blocking, getting down the field, receiving, and getting yards after the catch.”
With Redwood going against Lemoore next week, Jarius is looking to make sure his teammates are in the right mindset, making sure everyone’s ready to play, and to do his part as well.
Brooks had one more thing he wanted to say, “Thank you guys for all coming out to the games. We love you guys.”
The defensive line had a great game, forcing constant pressure and forcing Green School quarterback Gauge Rivas ’27, into making bad decisions.
Varsity defensive line coach Kyle Bell and JV defensive line coach Luke Feldstein have been preparing them since last school year. “They started practicing in the springtime. Two hours a day, working our fundamentals on a daily basis, we actually spend enough time working so that the games are easy and fun for our boys. The hard work is already done.”
Bell and Feldstein believed they did best setting the edge from, “Tackle to tackle and really did an excellent job outside containment, and then our interior defensive lineman did a really good job getting penetration and pressure on the quarterback.”
Bell and Felstein saw some flaws and believe, “This group is capable of making a lot more sacks in the game than we do, and I think that we can improve on maybe getting off a little bit better on a pass rush.”
With the Rangers facing a solid team in Lemoore next week, Bell and Luke are going to prepare the D-line by going the same route as they do every week. Just make sure their guys are healthy and ready to go out on the field and have fun, which is the most important thing.
Bell and Feldstein had one more thing they would like to say, “Just appreciate all your guys’ support, and just know that our boys are working extremely hard and doing what they can on a daily basis to try to bring a valid Championship to Redwood. Go out and hug a D-lineman.”
