On Thursday, the 17th, Redwood Varsity Basketball went head-to-head against Mt. Whitney. Sadly, it didn’t end too well. The final score being 78-62, with Mt. Whitney being 16 points ahead.

Alex Garrett ’19 says “In the beginning, we had a rough start, but I think we were down 21 at one point and then we brought it back to 4. We played tough and I’m glad that we never gave up.” When we asked if he expected anything specific from Whitney he said, “Well since we’re rivals, we always expect to get a good game out of them and I’m excited for the next time we play them.

Garrett thinks his team has improved a lot since they first started, yet thinks his team needs to work on consistent communication. “I’m looking forward to playing them again next month.” Personally, Garrett wants to work on slowing down and remaining focused during the game.

Sebastian Galaviz says, “Going into the game, we felt confident, we knew they had good players, and we knew we had players that could match up with them. We thought we were better than them, but we didn’t execute and play the way we wanted to.”

He was expecting them to “be fast, quick, and physical, we knew they were going to come out and play hard. Overall, we didn’t do very well, a lot more things we could fix.” Personally, Galaviz’s best play was he made two back-to-back 3’s.

The team is excited to play Whitney again February 6th at Mt. Whitney. Their next home came is today, January 23rd against Lemoore, come watch and support!
