Last weekend, March 19, Emerson Pressley, ’22 and Keira Bixler, ’24 both held their own Spring Fling dance with friends.
Although all the high schools in the district are able to attend the April 2 Spring Fling at Mt.Whitney, students such as Pressley and Bixler have chosen to do their own.
Bixler shares just one of her many memorable things that she has done with her friend group. Bixler’s group of friends came up with the theme “Country vs. Country Club,” inspired by Ranger Week. To prepare, she says, “we prepared a playlist and decorated my backyard in our ‘country/country club’ theme.”
With dances, students may feel obligated to get a date, but Bixler explains how, “we often have several people fly solo. We’d rather have their presence than have them feel that they must have a date to be included.”
Pressley, however, for her last Spring Fling as a senior did something completely different. She got her group of friends together and went on a party bus. The theme was “pink-out.”
With it being Pressley’s last Spring Fling, she was able to share, “a super memorable moment [as she] was getting ready with [her] friend, Paola. [They’ve] known each other since middle school and getting ready [with each other] for [their] last Sadie’s ever was really sweet.”
However, her group was different from Bixler’s group because everyone who attended had a date.
Pressley shares it was a little more of a process to put her Sadies together, “to prepare for the dance, I put a group together of 50 people about a little over a month before. I put a down payment on a party bus and had everyone pay me a certain amount for it a week in advance. Me and my friends all got spray tans and our nails done. We got ready together and did our hair and makeup.”
Both Bixler and Pressley’s events turned out better than expected, they said.
