The Covid-19 Pandemic has affected schools worldwide and has heavily affected students in how they learn and attend school. As schools switch to online distance learning, teachers and students have to adjust to their new lifestyles for online schooling over Zoom calls and Schoology. Out of those troubled by the pandemic, senior students are the most affected by the pandemic and online learning. Many social events have been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sherrie Clark, ‘21, says her senior year has been negatively affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, but she is adjusting to it and is hopeful things will get better in the future. “My thoughts on how the pandemic has affected me as a student is kind of upsetting. This, along with many others, is our final year in high school, being a senior and all.” Clark is hopeful for prom and a return to school after winter break.

As for how it has affected lifestyles as a student, Clark says it’s a lot of adjusting. “I don’t mind the new schedule we are doing… but doing everything online and at home is another thing to get used to,” Clark says that she misses physically going to school, class, and having an in-person connection with her peers. “Again though, there’s a reason why we are doing this at home. Hopefully, more people will wear masks and be cautious so we can go back to school physically.”

Sierra Cranston, ‘21, is disappointed her last year is not turning out the way she had hoped. “It feels pretty ruined since we can’t do normal things, like football games and all the fun activities and events. I’m still hopeful for the future though.”

Jung Lee, ‘21, says she feels sad about the new changes to her lifestyle.  “It made me sad because I couldn’t see my friends. I was motivated for a while but then I got sad and not motivated.” Lee has been working on her school work but it is not the same as if she were in school.

Although this school year is not what anyone has expected, the seniors at Redwood High School are working to make the best of the situation and are remaining hopeful for the future.
