Last Friday night Redwood football opened their season against Centennial High School. The game ended in a loss that provided both positive and negative takeaways.
Ranger head coach Kevin Scharton said that his team’s play in the first half was negative, but his team improved in the second half.
Coach Scharton says, “The adjustment at halftime was we went over our blocking schemes, and told the boys they’re the Redwood Rangers and need to start paying like it.”
Scharton goes on to say that at halftime he made everyone aware of their assignments, and made sure they did them.
Linebacker, Noe Viveros ‘23 talked about the mental errors that were made in the second half that prevented the Rangers from being productive.
Viveros says, “The first half we weren’t very into it and we made a lot of mental errors. In the second half we played a lot better, the game just didn’t go our way in the end.”
Cornerback, Ambrose Bueno ‘23 agrees that in the first half of last Friday’s game, his team gave a poor effort. Bueno feels they’ll need to play like they did in Friday’s second half if they’re going to beat Clovis North on Thursday.
Bueno says, “We need to give it our all.”
They’ll need to be locked in from the start. Linebacker, Evan Gonzalez ‘23 said that he feels there was a positive from Friday’s game.
“ On the positive side we saw that we can play with these bigger schools and compete with them.”
