The Redwood Rangers varsity football team look for a successful season after a long summers worth of hard work and dedication.

Redwood football season is within arms reach. Thomas Plummer, ‘25, and Cash Rico, ‘25, have been standout players for the Rangers this off season. While they play different positions, their mindset for the season is very similar.

Rico is a wide receiver and a strong safety for the Rangers this season. This will be his fourth year playing football for the Rangers. As he makes his way to the field Rico is looking to exceed expectations because of his battle with his knee injury. During his junior year Rico suffered a knee injury and was forced to get surgery after the season ended.

“I feel good, we’re ready to win some games,” Rico says.

For the Rangers summer practices meant more than just practicing in the heat. Teammates bonded and team chemistry was built.

Team chemistry is a big step to success, and it doesn’t come overnight. The Rangers traveled all over the valley and as far as Morro Bay to compete in 7-on-7 tournaments. Plummer has high hopes for himself and the team heading into the 2024 season.

“I feel like we all just came together… we’re more of a team now.” Rico said.

After each season few players are selected for the first team all league. Plummer is setting high standards for himself this season in hopes of being chosen. “My personal goal of this is to be the first team all league.” Plummer says.

The Rangers are also looking to win the Cowhide back and win league. In 2023 the Rangers lost 20-14 in overtime. They look to change the result this season.

“Our team goal should be able to win league easily.” Plummer says.

The Rangers kick off their season on August 23rd at 7:30pm at the Mineral King Bowl against the Centennial Golden Hawks, a school from Bakersfield.

“Keep going and take one game at a time, and lets win each game,” Rico said.
