Last month, Visalia Unified School District [VUSD] called for community input regarding the search for Redwood High School’s next principal.
VUSD held three listening sessions on Monday, January 29, and administered a survey that closed on Friday, February 2.
Dr. Brandon Gridiron was appointed interim principal after Dr. Amanda Richard resigned at the start of the school year.
According to Superintendent Kirk Shrum, many members of the community want to see a principal similar to Dr. Gridiron.
He says, “It was really clear that the Redwood community values the leadership that Dr. Gridiron is providing.”
Shrum says the ideal principal can connect with students, parents, and the community.
“They feel called to be [at Redwood],” he says. “This is what they want to do. They’re committed to the school.”
Additionally, Shrum says the person should have a goal for Redwood and a plan to make it happen.
“I’m looking for someone that has a vision for [Redwood], knows areas of strength [and] areas that need improvement, and has a has a strategy around how to engage in [this] work,” he says.
