Redwood ASB [Associated Student Body] held an icebreaker rally Friday, August 12. Amanda Richard Ed.D introduced herself and expressed her excitement about her new job.

On Tuesday, June 28, former principal Matt Shin was appointed Area Administrator. This left the position of Redwood principal vacant.

Following Shin’s departure, the VUSD [Visalia Unified School District] Board of Education appointed Richard as Redwood High School Principal on Tuesday, July 26.

Richard holds a doctorate in education. Before accepting the position, she taught high school for 17 years.

She applied for the position because she loves high school culture.

“The culture of high school with all of the activities and the athletics and journalism and all these opportunities for kids. You just don’t get that at any other school setting,” she says.

According to Richard, past principals have contacted her and expressed mutual excitement.

For the first time in over 20 years, Redwood has a female principal. Richard plans to continue developing Redwood’s culture and has the support to do so.

“I’m just super excited,” Richard says. “I’m honored to be a part of the Redwood culture because Redwood is such a special place.”
