The Redwood High School Drama Department is set to take center stage at the Rotary Theater from May 17th through May 20th, for the much-anticipated “RHS Night of One Acts”. The event promises to be a showcase of talent, creativity, and theatrical prowess, as students from the Drama 1 classes and advanced students unite to deliver a series of captivating performances.
The curtain rises at 7 p.m. each evening, with the Drama 1 classes and advanced students sharing the spotlight on Wednesday and Thursday. The weekend performances, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, will exclusively feature the advanced classes, offering a platform for these seasoned students to demonstrate their refined skills and artistic maturity.
Matilde Aveta, ’23 plays as Pinocchio in a scene. The theme of Pinocchio aligns with the journey of self-discovery and transformation, and since she has experienced life as a foreign-exchange student this school year, she says she connects with the themes portrayed.
In preparation for the role, Aveta says she has faced challenges with English pronunciation, “I asked Mrs. Galvan to change the number three to four because I don’t like how I pronounce three. So, I am saying that my nose grows four inches instead of three.”
With an appearance as Humpty-Dumpty, Mickail Thomas, ’23 says, “I am bringing a bit of personal sass and sarcasm to it, and a bit of personal rage for what this character feels in a sense that I don’t think anyone else could really replicate.”
The “RHS Night of One Acts” is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the students and faculty of the Redwood High School Drama Department. It is an opportunity for the community to witness the blossoming talent of these young thespians and to support their passion for the performing arts.
Tickets are priced at a modest $5, making it an affordable and enriching experience for all. The Redwood High School Drama Department extends a warm invitation to all community members to join them for this exciting theatrical event.
Mark your calendars and prepare to be enthralled by the dramatic flair of Redwood High’s finest.
