On Tuesday, September 29th, the Rangers took on the Maroon School at Groppeti Community Stadium, which resulted in a statement 53-7 win. Defensive coordinator Marcus Moore and two players look over their performance.

Quarterback Miranda Ortiz ‘28, put up video game-like numbers, having a total of four touchdowns, with two of them being rushing, one of them being passing, and one of them being receiving.

To perform like that felt, “Good, I’ve been out a couple of games too, so it feels good to come back and score four touchdowns,” said Ortiz.

Ortiz prepared herself for this game by focusing in practice and making sure she is on the right page as her teammates.

As a whole, Ortiz believes the team did, “Pretty good, there’s a couple mistakes that we could have done better, like just catching our balls, but overall, I think we did pretty good.”

The offense as a whole put on a show; there were four different Recievers that caught a touchdown, which includes Jaelyn Bruce ’28, Avah Winstead ’28, Adriana Soria-Rosales ’27, and Analizah Balderas ’28.

Rusher Harlyn Kausen ‘27, had a whopping total of nine flag pulls throughout the game, getting to the ball quickly while also showcasing her coverage by forcing various pass breakups throughout the game.

To Kausen, it is an honor to be able to play as much as she did and to get the opportunity to pull flags; she enjoys leading her team.

Kausen prepared herself physically for this game by making sure she was hydrated, and she made sure that she stretched her body well before the game.

What Kausen believes she did best against The Maroon School was leading her team well and playing her absolute best.

Kausen believes that she could have done better by sharpening up on some mistakes that she made.

Kausen is going to prepare for the team’s next game against Golden West by working on the things she knows she needs to work on and staying focused.

The defense did not start off on the best foot at the beginning of the game. They allowed The Maroon School to score on their first drive after previously shutting out their last two opponents.

Defensive coordinator Marcus Moore said, “We started off a little slow, and they were doing some things we haven’t really seen before. So, they had that big first play with the quarterback, and we just didn’t get the flags on that,” said Moore.

Afterwards, the team made some adjustments, and they really took away from the Maroon School trying to beat them with something that they aren’t good at, and it worked out pretty well for the Rangers.

The defense prioritized shorter coverage; they put more people in the box, since many teams the Rangers have faced haven’t been throwing much. The Rangers get a lot of pressure really quickly, and by keeping players in the shallow, it sets the team up for batted balls or interceptions.

What Moore believes the defense did best was, “Just rallying through, we started slow, and that’s where a lot of high schoolers end up getting down. They came back, and they battled back. I want to say they stopped them inside their own twenty, and then from there it was all uphill for us and downhill for them,” said Moore.

Moore’s goal for the rest of the season for the defense is for them to have pick-sixes, shutouts, and safeties. His dream is that the team scores every point on the board.

Moore had more to say, “Great job on the whole team’s part. We just got to keep working, keep doing well, and keep driving to get better because I want to make a big push to the playoffs, and hopefully can cap that off with a valley championship.”

The Rangers’ next opponent will be the Golden West Trailblazers at Groppeti Community Stadium on Tuesday, October 6th starting at 7 PM.
