Heading into the game of Redwood at Tulare Union, Union was on a 29 regular season game winning streak. With Redwood coming of a 28-25 victory against Dinuba, they had to take on 2-0 Tulare Union on their home turf.
Coach Scharton believes in his team. “I’m excited about our defense… and I loved our energy from last week, we want to carry that over.” He was also happy about the way they were able to run the ball with a strong backfield of Caden Shafer, ’21, and James Richardson, ’20.
Scharton says he loves the way his backs run the ball. They run hard, break tackles, and always fight for those extra yards. However, passing the ball was a struggle against Dinuba and they focused on that a lot this week on practice.
Scharton believes that his guys match up well against Tulare Union, they are ready for the speedy and explosive offense that The Tribe carry in their holster.
And they did. Allowing a staggering 0 points in the first half, and only 8 on the game. This showcases the Ranger defense on a whole new scale as The Tribe was able to score 45, and 56 in their first two games.
The Ranger’s juggernaut of a defense is lead by Hudson Walker, ‘20, who accounted for 4 sacks on the day. Dominick Mccormick accounted for 8 tackles and an early interception.
The Redwood offense showed their big play potential with a 75 yard touchdown to Sam Olson, 63 yard touchdown to Brian Brown, and a 22 yard rushing touchdown for James Richardson.
Ryan Rios displayed what he really can do bouncing back from a rough start against Dinuba finishing with 11-18 passing, 216 yards, and 2 touchdowns.
Coach Scharton continues to lead the Rangers in spectacular fashion. The Rangers are heading into a tough game versus Tulare Western in the Mineral King Bowl under the Friday night lights on September 13th at 7:30.
