WYL is coming up for our Boys Tennis team, and it is being hosted at our own courts. Some players think this is an advantage, but some have other thoughts. Here is what the varsity team has to say about this year’s area tournament.
Dominic Nguyen, ’24, is the number one player on varsity. He starts off by saying, “It feels amazing to be a part of the team. I feel very honored to be a part of this great organization.” When asked about the competition this year he replies, “In league, I think we’re the best. We have a very good chance of winning this year.” The WYL tournament switches where they will hold it every year, changing out between the four schools. Nguyen thinks that having it on our own courts will be an advantage to the players. He says, “It will be great to play on our own courts. They’re familiar, and we need that especially in WYL.”
Nathan Butterfeild, ’22, agrees with Nguyen in saying, “I’m number five on the team. Being a part of the team is cool. Tennis is just a fun sport,” Butterfeild has a slightly different opinion than Nguyen when it comes to the topic of WYL being played on Redwood’s courts. He says, “Honestly, in tennis the courts don’t really matter. But being closer to home definitely helps our attitudes and confidence in the game.”
Jacob Yang, ’22, is the number two on the team. He starts off by saying, ” Being a part of the tennis team really makes it feel like your a part of something important.” When asked about the teams bond, he replies, “We’re pretty close. All of us all get along.” Yang continues by saying, “Hosting on our own courts definitely gives us an advantage. I mean we know those courts and we’ve played on those courts.”
While not all agree on the importance of the courts itself, the whole team feels the mentality and confidence is so much stronger when on your own courts. Butterfeild finishes by saying, “Join tennis! Lets go Rangers!”
