With the upcoming Cowhide week  decorations are being set up around campus to make the spirit come alive. The decorating of the campus for Cowhide started this past weekend.

Audrey Orosco ‘23 says, “We did most of it this weekend, so like decorating the campus, making our campus posters, all kinds of stuff on campus.”

Setting up for Cowhide comes with stress for many ASB students. Lexi Ellis ‘23, who has been part of ASB for four years says, “Setup for Cowhide is fun, but it is a lot of work, it’s stressful, and everybody’s doing different jobs.”

Spirit Lane is a big tradition at Redwood as it gets repainted every year for Cowhide. ASB advisor Ms. Aston says, “One of my favorite things is to repaint Spirit Lane every year…it’s fun seeing a new kid get to learn why it’s important and special so that part is fun for me.”

Ellis says, “It’s hard, but it’s a lot of fun and we come together and listen to music and paint.”

All of the ASB students have been working their hardest to get the campus ready, getting all the social media platforms uploading almost everyday.  Orosco says, “We’re also doing a lot on social media, so there’s going to be quite a bit of pre-recorded TikToks going out on both Instagram and TikTok.”

This year Redwood is on the away side of the stadium meaning having a smaller space to work with. The smaller space could create challenges when it comes to accommodating every spectator.

Aston says, “It has its own set of challenges because we have so much spirit and student support that would take up a big part of the bleachers just as a student section.”

On top of the big game on Friday, ASB is putting on the annual Cowhide carnival during lunch. A lot of separate preparations go into the carnival as well.

Aston says, “There is a lot of planning that goes into Cowhide, they get in different committees because there are so many parts to Cowhide. For preparation, we have to think of dress-up days and carnival games to keep kids interested.”

ASB students work hard to make the campus look the best it can be, to show Rangers’ pride. Orosco says, “Honestly just seeing the campus come to life. . .we just get here and make the campus look so beautiful.”
