The Red Ink Club is a creative writing club that focuses on different types of writing. It encourages writers on campus to write and go out of their comfort zone or to just simply learn and get better at different styles of writing. Red Ink Club is currently hosting a contest for anyone that is interested in writing; the contest is flash fiction.
Flash fiction entries will be accepted until the sixth of December. The contest is called “flash fiction” because stories need to be fifty five words or less in order to be submitted. It is a challenging yet very fun way to be creative when writing fiction. There is much freedom in the contest; the submissions can be any theme. There will be three winners total, and they will be featured in the Gigantea along with posted flyers. If you have more than one creative piece, then you can submit up to three.
Miss Link, the Red Ink Club Advisor feels passionately about writing, and hopes that students entering, take a risk because “a risk is worth it if you get to connect with an audience.” This is not the first or last time that Red Ink Club has hosted a contest, and Miss Link wants to continue to host them because “we wanted to keep the tradition going…I thought it was a neat idea.” The tradition will continue to succeed, and will always excite with wonderful submissions.
Many students are looking forward to participating in the contest. Madison Zamora, ’22, wants to enter Red Ink’s contest because “I feel like my writing has somewhat improved from last year…all of my creative instincts are flowing.” Zamora has been writing for several years and continues to write because “you can write about anything…and express whatever you want to an audience.”
Zamora is not the only student passionate about writing. Serena Ponce, ’20, enjoys writing a lot because “I can think outside of the box and do anything with the story that I want.” Ponce has been writing for about eight years and is very excited because ¨it is going to be fun but also a challenge.¨
If you enjoy writing and being creative enter the flash fiction contest until December sixth. Good luck writers!
