Redwood students and staff share their thoughts and reasons to enjoy Cowhide other than football

Although many students at Redwood care about cowhide due to them enjoying football and watching game play out, but what about the students and staff that just aren’t into Cowhide solely for football, why should they care about Cowhide?

There are other reasons to care about Cowhide that should be considered.

Sam Ayala, ’26, says, “I think it’s worth it, because even if you’re thinking about not going, i’d say still go, because even if you don’t like the idea of Cowhide or you don’t like sports, you can still make a lot of fun memories.”

Despite whether or not you’re into Football, it’s alright to go just for the experience and to spend time with the people around you.

Mr. Austin Arruda, a chemistry teacher at Redwood, says, “There’s a lot of history that goes into it and I think that even if you’re not the biggest person who enjoys football necessarily, it’s just a time to come together and be united at Redwood.”

The cowhide game is a time to get together to enjoy each others company and the camaraderie that it fosters.

In fact, many students attend the Cowhide game for socialization rather than the Football game itself, and some prefer to watch the cheerleader’s performance.

Autumn Milburn, ’26, says that it takes a lot of time to get ready for Cowhide because It takes weeks for the cheer team to come up with a routine, and along the way they critique every bit of it to make sure it’s perfect. The coaches work very hard to make sure they are prepared for the Cowhide game.

Ms. Myronee Diaz, the Head Cheer Coach at Redwood, says, “We’re working all season long to progress. It takes a lot effort on everyone’s part. It’s not about just showing up. It’s about putting in the work to be better than yesterday. Everyone has to be dialed in and locked in for this performance to make it exciting.”

The amount of effort the Cheerleaders and Coaches put into their performances is worthy of recognition and applause, everybody has their part in Cowhide no matter who you are.

The motivation students have to attend cowhide isn’t exclusive to just football, which is made clear by the student body and staff at Redwood High school.

Ayala says, “i’m not very sportsy myself because I don’t like going to the football games. I usually go for like, the performances during halftime, but I had a good time nevertheless.”

Some are more interested in Cowhide than others, but collectively the attendees of Cowhide have a good time and gain lingering memories to last a lifetime.

Autumn Milburn, ’26, says “It holds a special place in my heart knowing that I have got to experience [Cowhide] for so long. It hit me recently that this will be my last Cowhide, and I still remember being a little 7 year old in my cheer uniform cheering in the stands at cowhide.”
