Spikeball Club recently started here at Redwood, and this past weekend was their second tournament taken place at Soroptimist Park!
John Washam, ’19, is the President. He has lots of plans and hopes for this new club this year.
Q. What inspired you to start a spikeball club?
A. “Every year my church goes to Beach Camp and I learned how to play spikeball out on the beach. As my friends and I kept playing, we grew more interested in the game and decided to start a club at school.”
Q. What would you say to people thinking about joining, but don’t know how to play?
A. “Join! We will have informational meetings to teach you how to play.”
Logan Wells, ’20, is the Vice President. He also, is very serious and excited about the new Spikeball Club starting and is prepared to get as many people possible to join and learn how to play!
Q. What are your plans for Spikeball club?
A. “We will be having tournaments on Saturdays where anyone interested is welcome to come, and learn how to play. This October we will be having a “Pink” tournament for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Everyone wanting to come will dress up and we will have a $10 entering fee, where 5 of those dollars will go to the Valley Children’s Hospital.”
Q. Any big events coming up we should know about?
A. “We will be having a tournament against the Golden West Spikeball Club.”
Doesn’t this sound like fun? Kiersten Moshier, ’22, and Otto Bahr, ’21, are new members who have their own opinions on the club.
Kiersten Moshier, ’22, said:
Q. Why did you decide to join Spikeball Club?
A. “My church introduced it to me, and I thought it was lots of fun!”
Q. Who is your spikeball partner and are you going to the tournament?
A. “My recent partner has been Bethany Wells, but for this tournament it will be Sydney Brammer, and we’re going to beat everyone! Spikeball legends!!”
Otto Bahr, ’21, said:
Q. What are you most excited about for Spikeball Club?
A. “All of the competitions and tournaments coming up.”
Q. Who is your Spikeball partner and are you going to the tournament?
A. “Nolan Prichett, and unfortunately I can’t make this tournament.”
If you are interested in joining Spikeball Club or coming to one of the tournaments, don’t hesitate to talk to Washam, Wells, or anyone involved in the club! This is one of many good ways to get involved here at Redwood! Hope to see you at the next meeting!
