Tonight Redwood Ranger Basketball is closing out its 2021-22 season with a matchup that is exciting on every level. The Rangers (17-9) will be taking on their rivals, the Mt. Whitney Pioneers (26-1).
These two teams already faced each other on January 25th in a game that saw the Pioneers win 59-48. The Rangers will look to avenge that loss tonight. Mt. Whitney’s season has been nothing short of spectacular; if the Rangers were to upset the Pioneers tonight, it would be a night fans would never forget.
Along with tonight being an incredibly interesting matchup, it is also senior night. Being as tonight is his seniors last regular season game, pride is something coach Jason Black wants to see from his boys tonight. “I would really like to see their pride on display tonight.”
There’s definitely a lot of pride that comes with wearing the Ranger blue; it will be fascinating to see if that pride that the boys play with tonight translates to a hard-fought win against their rival.
Coming into tonight’s senior night, forward Miguel Williams, ‘22 has been thinking a lot about the memories he has made during his high school basketball career. Williams says, “My favorite memory has just been this year’s team growing together because we weren’t as close as we are now at the beginning.”
Small forward, Kolby Howard, ‘22 could not be more excited for tonight’s game. Howard says, “It’s really exciting to get a chance to hopefully play our best game against them and end the regular season on a win.”
Howard continues by saying it’s been a great ride at Redwood, and he’s ready for tonight.
There are so many huge memories that could be made tonight, and point guard Nahir Karimi is well aware of that. Karimi says, “Beating Whitney in my final regular-season game would be a night I’d never forget.”
