Tonight, October 6th, 2023, the Redwood Varsity Football Team will be seen playing away at Strathmore High School against Porterville High School. The game is kicking off at 6:30 pm. Last week the Rangers went out with a close bang against El Diamante, ending the score with 14-7.
Jalon Wilkerson, ’24, is a receiver and corner for the team. He says, “Based on the last few years, I expect us to do really well, but we cannot go into the game thinking that it is going to be easy.”
He also says, “Porterville is a team full of tricks, they do a lot of formations that are tricky to understand but our coaches have put in a good game plan to help us during this game.”
Right guard and tackle, Jordan Nyugen, ‘24, says, “We expect to carry on the drive from our last game, by having a winning spirit on the team, I think that affects us beneficially, because we always do great when we are having fun on the field. I think this week we just have to have fun, do our thing, and it will be easy from there.”
Jesse Bautista, ’24, says, “Practice starts on Monday, we go hard everyday, and our coaches tend to get on us when we don’t do something as best. ‘“Keep pushing, keep pushing,'” they tell us.”
Running back AJ Garza, ‘24, says, “We have been working on our passing game a lot, as well as the offensive line and our blockers. Working on these things will help us throughout the game, and being (1-0) definitely feels good, but we need to get to 5-0, that’s why I think we need to keep the motivation up and we got it from there.”
