The Redwood Rangers look to avoid an 0-2 start to the season this Thursday against Clovis North.

Redwood is coming off a tightly contested 28-21 loss to Centennial High School last Friday.

Wide receiver Moses Burk ‘24 said that while the loss was hard, his team is not putting too much weight into it.

“The game was an eye opener but it also showed that we are a good football team. We came back from 2 touchdowns after halftime and almost won. We have things we need to work on but we won’t let this loss define who we are as a team.”

Last Friday saw its ups and downs for Redwood, but defensive end Kai Prwisendorf ‘24 is just making progress and moving forward.

“We just need to move forward, to learn and go on, get ready for this week. Friday was not a bad game for us, it wasn’t the best game we could have, but it wasn’t too bad. It is only the first game of the year and it doesn’t matter if you win or lose that first game, one game doesn’t predict the whole season. We lost against a really good football team, and we got a lot to learn.”

The season has just begun, and as much as fans and skeptics like to focus on losses this really is just the beginning of a long season with much more ahead for the Rangers.

Throughout the 10-week regular season, teams will see a lot of different styles and be presented with a lot of different looks from different teams.

Linebacker Evan Gonzalez ‘23 explained the differences between the different offensive styles of Centennial and this week’s opponent Clovis North.

‘“Centennial is a more traditional spread football team with a single back in the backfield. Clovis north will use a wing or fullback more often and there are a lot of guys in motion in their offense.”

This week’s matchup sees the Rangers playing on Thursday night with a very short turnaround. Running back Alex Perch ‘24 is embracing the short turnaround.

“We want to win and we want to give everything we got Thursday night. It’s a short week of practice and we’re ready to bring everything we got and try to get the win.”
