This past month, Future Farmers of America (FFA) members have been preparing for the 2025-2026 year, and one thing that has been on their mind is officer elections.

The officer roles are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, and Sentinel. There are also some requirements needed to run for the 2025-2026 year.

Ag Mechanics teacher Mr. Coon says, “You have to have completed your first year of agriculture, and hold your green hand degree, and have a 3.0 or higher GPA to be in good standing with Redwood.”

All of the roles have an essential role in FFA, from leading meetings to being a friendly face and welcoming students in.

Floral Design teacher Ms. Veloz says, “Some qualities that are needed are confidence. Most students come in nervous, but they gain that confidence over time. The second thing is being friendly, being able to talk to everyone in the chapter, being inclusive, making sure they’re friends with everyone.”

2024-25 FFA reporter Emily Dean, ’26, says, “Being an officer has been exciting, and it’s been a lot of fun. Especially with our team this year, and I’ve seen a lot of improvements in our team building and our activities and meetings and it’s really fun to be able to put this together for the community.”

2024-25 FFA Vice President Marileigh Coon, ’25, says, “It’s been great being an officer, I’ve done it for the last three years and its a lot of hard work but you get to see it all pay off when your members have great meetings and events.

2024-25 FFA President Sadie Hemphill, ’25, says, “It’s really great being an officer, and fun. I’ve also done it for three years, and it’s great to bond with your officer team and other members and help them find a home in FFA.”
