The JV boys basketball team has recently started their season, but what you don’t know is that Isaiah Aguilar is not only the only freshman to make the team, but he’s also a starting point guard. Being a freshman and a starter isn’t really a big deal to him, he says, “I’ve always been a starter, there’s really nothing to it.”

Imagine joining a team, with people who have played with each other before-that’s exactly what Isaiah is going through. He says, “The team treats me differently, they bully me a little bit, but they’re all joking around.” Isaiah’s first reaction when finding out he was the only freshman to make the team was, “I was shocked. I was nervous because I didn’t know anyone on the JV team.”

He has been playing basketball since the 3rd grade and recently played with Redwood’s travel basketball team, Blue Crew, for two years. In his future, he hopes to go to Texas college and continue to play basketball. To prepare for games, he listens to music and gets mentally prepared.

His teammates love Isaiah as well. Mckay Bryant, ’21, says that it is amazing to play with a player that explosive and that good. He follows saying that he could see Isaiah going to play Division 1 basketball at a good college saying, “His future is really bright, he definitely could [play D1].

Come watch the next JV home game on Monday, December 3rd against Mission Oak at 4:30 and keep an eye out for the only freshman on the court, Isaiah Aguilar #20.
