Nicholas Garcia describes his journey in Producing music and his page’s future.
Nicholas Garcia, ‘23 has recently begun diving into producing, posting several of his beats on Instagram, TikTok, and Youtube under the social media handle @dejectancies, gaining light traction.
Garcia says how he was interested in music production “since he was 12-13 years old,” but only now starting to explore and actually begin to produce himself. Some of his music and producer inspirations include “Pierre Bourne, Autumn, and Axxturel,” influencing his style.
Having only begun around the Winter of 2022, Garcia says he learned how to navigate music production software FL Studio by “watching some of [his] favorite producers’ work” deconstructed on the software, along with several “youtube tutorials.”
Garcia says, “it was pretty overwhelming at first” as the software (FL Studio) has an “intimidating display” with “so much information to process.” Garcia says that it was “difficult” to learn about the several different functions and intricacies of the software, struggling for the first couple of months. He continued to say how he’s still not “extremely familiar” with the program, but has made “a lot of progress since starting.”
When asked to describe the process going into creating a beat, Garcia says how he “usually has an idea of what kind of beat [he] wants,” picking out sounds to match that said idea, with the process being “a bunch of trial and error to figure out what sounds good to [him].” He also notes how some beats take longer than others “depending on what beat [he’s] making” and how familiar he is with said style or genre.
Garcia says how producing to him is “super enjoyable,” with his motivation behind it being to “just have fun with it.”
Jacob Garcia, ‘24 his younger brother says they’ve always been into music together but did not know until recently that he was into producing. He also says how it’s “cool for him to do something he likes” seeing his growth firsthand, and believes in his success if he continues.
As for the future of his page, Garcia says how he has been sending beats and hopes to have music out with different people, and “possibly a project with [him] and [his] friends hopefully.”
