In recent weeks, there has been many new music releases that have instantly topped the charts.The success of these songs and albums make it apparent that the music is popular in different areas around the country and even globe.
Last week on November 3rd, singer-songwriter, Ariana Grande, released her most recent single titled “Thank U, Next”. The track is a powerful pop song that Grande wrote herself to play somewhat of a tribute to her past relationships. It is obviously labeled as a break-up song about exes because she literally mentioned the names of her past partners in the lyrics. Grande expressed how it was more than a break-up song and that she wanted to show the world how much she’s grown as a person because of her relationships.
Although it was released not too long ago, it has already proven it’s dominance in the charts.The track currently sits at #1 on numerous charts, including Itunes US chart of all genres and Pop itself, Worldwide Apple Music Song Chart, and it is projected to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart . Grande also broke the global Spotify record for the most streams in 24 hours for a Female artist. These charts and broken records show the apparent success of the song, and it seems as if the world believes she deserves these titles as well.
Focusing on foreign releases, there are a number of songs of artists from different countries with peaks on different charts. Jackson Wang, an artist from Hong Kong and also a K-pop singer, dropped a collab with American rapper Gucci Mane on November 7th. The track is titled “Different Game” and it is in full English because Wang is fluent in the language, therefore people who are only fluent in English can listen to this song without searching for translations. It saves the pain, but music should not be discriminated and favored depending on what language it is sung in.
The hot hip-hop track is filled with a strong beat and verses from the two rappers. It is a song meant to be danced to and can be used as a source to produce adrenaline. Wang also wrote the lyrics, and he rapped about his overall confidence and his successful career. It currently holds the #1 spot in Itunes US for Hip-Hop genre and #5 for all genres. He is also dominating in overseas charts in China, his home country. Wang is an artist that is emerging in the States and internationally, and the success of “Different Game” proves this.
