On May 28th, it was announced that assistant wrestling coach Michael Wright II would be Redwood’s first-ever Girls Flag Football Coach.

The process for Wright, when he had his eyes set on becoming a coach, involved interviews and figuring out the process and when it would happen.
With a plan now set, Wright is excited to see where it will go.
When Wright found out he had got the job, he was “excited, I think we have a lot of really good female athletes here. Looking at the form we put out for interest, there are a lot of girls who are interested. So I’m excited for them to have the opportunity to play a sport that I think is really fun and new,” said Wright.
Wright believes that being a former assistant football coach and player will help in terms of game planning and getting the players equipped to play a game every week, even though it’s a different style of game.
Wright’s coaching philosophy will be “flexible this first year, as adjusting to a new set of rules. It’s just a different game and not getting stuck in one way either. So I think being really flexible in exactly what we do will be very important for our success.”
Wright’s goal for his first year is to teach the girls the game and enjoy the process of learning and improving.
If they can do that, Wright believes that it can be a successful year
