Dallas Harris ’24, is a first-year captain on the Men’s Varsity Soccer team. Dallas says, “It’s super cool leading the guys, we just try and play our best every game. Harris feels that the best advice he could give is to, “Just to play every game like it’s your last.”
Being a soccer captain takes a lot of skills and forms of leadership and Harris has learned a lot from things like that. Harris says, “I’ve learned to voice whatever I want to say and make sure all the guys are on the same page and we ultimately know that we have to play as a team.”
He also says, “ I want to improve on my patience because sometimes I get frustrated with the rest of the guys, but I know that I have to take my time and be better. “
Dallas has recently been injured but is hoping to be able to play at the next game.
Jesse Zetino, ’24, explains how communication is the most important skill set for the team. He says, “I’ve learned how to do what I want to do and then explain that to others, and if someone’s struggling, then I can help them out. While doing what I say to do as well.”
Zentino says, “Last year I was the captain for a little bit, and this season I’ve been captain for pretty much the whole season, which is super exciting.”
Ethan Bither ’24, says,” Being a captain has always been a goal for me. I am often captain for my club team but being selected to be captain for school is a huge honor and I am very proud.”
Bither has had prior experience being a captain. He says, “I have been captain for other teams and even my sophomore year I was a JV captain but on Varsity I have been a captain since our league season started.”
Like many of the other players, the coaches have played a big part not only as role models but also as teachers. Bither says, “Chica is an excellent coach and has taught me so much since I have played for him. He is a great leader and he has helped me develop my leadership skills in various ways.”
Ethan has shown a lot of leadership and pride as a captain saying, “I am proud of the team and regardless of results, those are my brothers and I would give anything for them without hesitation.”
